In this introductory course, you’ll learn about plants, natural ingredients, and self-care practices that benefit your skin and overall health…naturally! Medicinal plants, many of which can be grown (or are already growing) in your backyard or garden, have been used for centuries in skincare and beauty rituals around the world. We’ll discuss the various uses of these plants and how they can easily be added to any skincare routine. Discover which plants and natural ingredients are best suited for your skin type, and use them to create customized skincare products including body scrubs, facial steams, and facial masks.
You’ll get to take home 3-4 handmade products and simple do-it-yourself (DIY) recipes to share with family and friends. Let your creative juices flow and experience the joy of making your own natural beauty and wellness products!
Interested in making herbal medicine but don’t know where to start? Love drinking herbal teas but unsure about what a tincture is and how it works? We will make each preparation together and go over the hows and whys of each one. The cold and flu season is almost upon us, and for centuries, family herbalists have used food and herbs as medicine to fend off these illnesses, bolstering the immune system to lessen their impact on families and the community, and alleviating symptoms along the way. Come learn about these time-tested plants and foods (some of which may be in your kitchen right now) and how they can relieve coughs and congestion, stop a runny nose, reduce fever, soothe a sore throat, and more.
You will learn how to make your own herbal remedies, including making some herbal medicine that you will take home– and we’ll also discuss what to look for in commercially prepared herbal medicine.
Autumn is upon us, and this means that the holiday season is right around the corner! And this can mean a time of great stress, whether you will be busy planning and organizing large gatherings, entertaining friends and family, shopping, or spending time alone. Too much stress – at any time and over longer periods of time- can compromise our health and wellbeing. But good news – we have herbal allies that are perfectly poised to help manage and reduce the effects that stress has on us! We will discuss how by supporting the digestive, immune, and nervous systems with various herbs and food, we can greatly improve our ability to cope.
You will also create some de-stressing herbal products to take home with you.
This holiday season, add a personal touch to your holiday gifts by making them yourself. Give your friends and family (and yourself!) the gift of self-care with natural products that are fun and easy to make at home.
