Low growing pineapple sage, growing only to 2 feet tall but can become 3-5′ wide from underground runners over several years. Bright scarlet red edible flowers attract hummingbirds May through November. Shear spent flowers to renew bloom. If you live somewhere where Salvia elegans dies before its fall bloom, try growing this variety as a fast growing, early blooming annual. Foliage is tangerine scented and flavored. Grows well in partial shade, although full sun is best.
