‘Melissa’ is a semi dwarf English lavender, growing to 2 ft in bloom. It has more of a green look to the foliage than most English lavender, but the fun part of this selection is the flower color! Flowers start as white buds, then open to varying shades of pink and white on the same flower stem. The overall effect is a soft, gentle wave of color with a sweetly fragrant aroma. Flower stems are medium tall, 6-10 inches. The calyces are pink and green, so it does not dry as a showy specimen, but flowers can be used for sachets. ‘Melissa’ appreciates very good drainage and a moderate pruning after flowering to prevent it from becoming woody.
This is a great specimen to toss in your lavender collection to give it a bit of a zing, but will also brighten up any dark flowered hot sun perennial border.
