Catalog
This is our first attempt to provide a printable catalog here at the new site. You can highlight the sections you want, and use the print option 'As selected on screen' in Print Preview to size and print just the sections you have selected.
I tried it and it works pretty good! This version of our catalog is about 2 years old. But, it's ~85% accurate and is still a good bet to find what you're looking for.
This is just a printable listed version of our catalog. For in-depth plant descriptions, pictures, and customizable search tools, visit our STORE. The Search and Plant Finder tools allow you to find plants by name or attribute.
Most of our annual and perennial plants are grown in 4-inch pots in order to give a healthier, stronger plant, ready to go out into the landscape. Those plants marked with a (*) are grown in 3-inch pots, and they include the common spring herbs grown from seed such as Genovese basil, chives and parsley. Please note that availability varies constantly. Some plants that are patented and/or came to us by tissue culture are much more expensive to get, so some of these plants will be grown in a square quart size pot.
How do you read the information in our catalog? A short description of each plant follows. Plants are in alphabetical order by botanical name, with annuals and perennials separated. In parenthesis is a description of height at maturity and exposure needs. The first letter describes the plant’s hardiness. A - annual; TP - tender perennial; H - Herbaceous (dies to ground during winter); SE - often remain evergreen except under colder conditions; E - Evergreen; D - Deciduous. The number is height at maturity. The last set of letters describes best light exposure. S - Sun; PS - Part sun; Sh - Shade. For example, (TP/18";PS-S) means the plant is a tender perennial that grows to 18 inches tall and will grow in part sun to sun, with part sun preferable.
If you haven’t visited us in a few years you will notice that we have grown, with new greenhouses, larger sales area, expanded gardens, more employees and some new pets! We are still a quiet spot to visit in the country, and love to see customers bring their families and friends not only to shop, but to take a class, relax in the gardens, enjoy a picnic lunch under the walnut trees, sit on a quiet bench to read or paint, show their kids the thousands of pollywogs and frogs in the ponds, and perhaps sit with the herb farm dogs Shea and Alvin. If you arrive when we first open in the morning or near closing time you can watch the two coveys of quail which live at the farm, wandering through the gardens and bathing in the ponds. Over the past few years we have also been blessed with early morning visits by families of foxes and coyotes and a couple of rather large gopher snakes – only one rattlesnake though, which Dan caught just like the “crocodile hunter” and whisked off to a new home!
We want to thank all of our customers for supporting us since 1995. As we enter our thirteenth year of business, we reflect on all of the plants we have sold over the last decade, and hope that there are many of our herbs and perennials out there beautifying your gardens and your lives. We love growing plants, and hope you love growing them as well.
Happy gardening and green blessings,
Dan Sale and Rose Loveall-Sale
